Hot days are here, and clearly, so is the humidity. With the constant heat comes the need to make sure your AC is working as it should.
If you see any of the following signs, it could mean you need an AC repair by a professional:
- Your air temperature isn’t what it should be
- You sense that your home isn’t be cooled like it normally is, or it’s taking longer to cool
- You feel warm air coming out of your vents
- You smell an odor
- You’re noticing your AC is cycling on and off constantly
- You’re hearing sudden and/or abnormal noises
- Your thermostat isn’t working
- You’re seeing a leak and/or what appears to be pooled water
- Poor airflow
- There is an unexplained lack of power
- Unexplained high humidity in the home
- Your energy bills are increasing or you saw a sudden spike in your bill
Let’s look at each.
Your air temperature isn’t what it should be
Do you notice the entire house isn’t as cool as it normally is, despite what’s showing on the thermostat? The issue could be anything from a clogged air filter to a blocked AC condenser to a dirty evaporator coil, or something else entirely that is impacting your AC’s ability to cool as it should.
You sense that your home isn’t be cooled like it normally is, or it’s taking longer to cool
It could be low refrigerant or it could be a number of other issues at play: whatever the issue may be, if you notice your home just simply isn’t cooling quickly (or staying cool), it could be a sign something is wrong.
You feel warm air coming out of your vents
Nothing is worse than wondering why you are so hot and then seeing that warm air is coming out of your vents. Of course the first thing you can do is double check your thermostat, but if you find that it is indeed on cooling mode, and warm air is still coming out, it could be an issue with restricted airflow or your compressor could have a problem. Whatever the source of the issue may be, we’re here to help.
You smell an odor
Unpleasant or unusual odors that are coming from or near your HVAC system can be a strong indicator something is not working properly. Our techs are here to diagnose what could be the issue to make sure you get rid of the source of the problem.
You’re noticing your AC is cycling on and off constantly
Routine cycles are one thing, but if you’re noticing constant cycling on and off – or just much more frequent cycling – give us a call.
You’re hearing sudden and/or abnormal noises
Your system probably does make some noise, and that’s normal. But if you notice a sudden increase in noise or even noises that strike you as unusual – such as rattling or buzzing – it can be a sign something is wrong.
Your thermostat isn’t working
If you suspect your thermostat has gone bad or it’s broken (and it’s not the batteries), then you want to call us so that your system functions properly.
You’re seeing a leak and/or what appears to be pooled water
Unexplained, pooled water or what you see as an active leak is reason to call us immediately.
What you feel as poor airflow—which really does impact your comfort levels in the home—can be a sign that there is something larger at play — whether it be an issue with the motor, ductwork, or something else. Call us to figure out what the issue is so you can get back to being comfortable.
There is an unexplained lack of power
If it’s not the circuit breaker at fault, it could be another issue that requires attention.
Unexplained high humidity in the home
Yes, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are extremely humid this time of year, but just because it’s very humid outside doesn’t mean you have to put up with major issues related to humidity inside. If suddenly you feel uncomfortable, but the temperature is still right, the issue could be one of too much moisture in the home.
We’re here to help whether it’s a re-calibration or if you want to learn more about dehumidifiers or other indoor air quality solutions that could help with the issue.
Your energy bills are increasing or you saw a sudden spike in your bill
An air conditioner that has a problem or is lacking maintenance may end up increasing your energy bills dramatically. Sometimes this can happen suddenly, and then you really know you want to act fast to minimize the damage. Not only does this cost more in the short-term to have your AC not working properly, but it can just put more wear and tera on the system.
